“to help others”
Service to the Public
In addition to all of these accolades, she has a strong commitment to service. She spent the summer after medical school with Ride for World Health, biking across the country from San Diego, CA to Bethany Beach, DE to educate on wellness and to raise funds for world health. During her residency, she spent time at a mission hospital in Papua New Guinea as a general surgeon.
According to Dr Burgers, “these experiences taught me about my own perseverance and the strength of people during difficult times. Not all roads are smooth, but my hope is to guide my patients through the rough spots in achieving their optimum breast health.”
Dr Burgers is an educator. She serves as an Assistant Professor for the General Surgery Residency where she teaches surgical and medical residents advanced surgery techniques and treatment approaches. She educates the community through a variety of lecture series. She has been an invited guest speaker at many educational conferences.
The fight to treat breast cancer is very personal to Dr Burgers because her mother is a survivor and her grandmother died too young from the disease.
We look forward to meeting you!
